In 2016, Asia Initiative won the Happy cities challenge for the new capital city of Amaravati. APCRDA wanted to launch a pilot project of the winning proposal in 2018. StudioPOD partnered with Asia Initiative to execute the pilot project in the city.
The Vision of the project was to use Social Capital Credits (SoCCs) as a community-led development program that provide incentives in return for services of collective good. Uddandrayunipalem village falls within the Amaravati City limits, to the east of the capital complex.
The objective of the program was to develop Social Infrastructure and Place-making projects which include the improvement of Anganwadi, schools, develop avenue planting, village square development, park and playground development. Proposals were given to develop a plaza at the Anganwadi which included additional green cover, play area for kids, statue restoration and retrofitting the existing infrastructure. In addition to that, efforts have been made for avenue tree planting along the west and the southern streets of the Anganwadi plaza.
