One Green Mile at Lower Parel is a streetscape development in the heart of Mumbai along one of the most prominent Business corridors of the city. It is a 1.8km stretch with a re-imagined right of way that has transformed one of the most congested street in the city into a complete street. A wide pedestrian walkway, dedicated cycle track, robust street furniture, adequate illumination and an improved green cover are a few key components of the implemented project Parel Baug is a 200 m stretch within One green Mile. StudioPOD, working alongside co-architects MVRDV, has completed construction of Parel Baug: One Green Mile, transforming a series of neglected spaces below Mumbai’s Senapati Bapat Marg flyover. Turning an overbearing element of concrete infrastructure into a public space for the entire local community, the design adds much-needed amenities and greenery, improves mobility, and creates a strong visual identity for the area. On a broader scale, the design offers a repeatable approach to sustainable urban development that asserts a new benchmark for underused public spaces in the intense Indian metropolis.Today, it’s the new thriving heart of the community and full of kids every morning and evening.
