Nehru Place Junction is a significant commercial district of South Delhi with many offices, hotels and restaurants located in its close vicinity. The junction is located on the intersection of Outer Ring Road of Delhi and Lala Lajpat Rai Road. Although this junction is a major node located close to the metro station and a busy commercial district, the pedestrian infrastructure is extremely lacking in terms of misplaced and discontinuous crossings and inaccessible or broken footpaths. This leads to pedestrians walking on the road increasing chances of accidents. Furthermore, auto rickshaws are illegally parked on the carriageway increasing traffic congestion at the junction.

A one month long trial was conducted at the junction. It aimed to address these issues by firstly, correcting the road geometry to streamline vehicular movement and reduce vehicular turning speeds at the junction. Additionally, pedestrian crossings were introduced to form a continuous movement corridor along all arms. IPT stands for the autorickshaws were demarcated to tackle congestion and provide safe alighting spaces for the passengers. As a result of the proposed design, the public realm was increased by 66% and vehicle turning speeds reduced by 31% on an average of all arms.
